Overview

A via ferrata means iron road in Italian. It is a secured mountain trail with rungs, rails, cables and bridges fixed to the rock face. This path gives access to mountain areas usually reserved for climbers and mountaineers.

The thrill, views and sense of achievement on a via ferrata stay in your memory for many years. There are more than 300 routes worldwide, mostly in Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland and Spain. A few routes are in the United States and Canada.

The highest via ferrata in the world is Mountain Torq on Mount Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo. It is also the first via ferrata in Asia.

Itinerary

Day 1 :

Pickup from hotel or airport. Depart on a 2 hours journey to Kundasang near Kinabalu Park.
Enjoy views of villages and valleys along Crocker Range.
Stop at Nabalu to see local fruits, vegetables and handicraft sold by villagers.
Check in at Kinabalu Pine Resort or similar.
Free time for own activities.
Dinner at resort restaurant and overnight stay.

Day 2 :

Morning: Wake up for breakfast and pack up. Check out.
Morning: Pick-up from resort and transfer to Kinabalu Park HQ. Collect packed lunch.
Morning: Guide will help with registration, assign mountain guide and prepare ID TAG.
Morning: Wear ID TAG at all times.
Morning: Transfer to Timpohon Gate to start climb to summit.
Climb takes about 4 to 5 hours.
1500hrs: Arrive at Pendant Hut at 3,289m and settle in.
1530hrs: Attend via ferrata briefing at Pendant Hut and meet Mountain Torq trainer.
1800hrs: Buffet dinner at Laban Rata restaurant. Overnight at Pendant Hut.
2000hrs: Lights out.

Day 3 :

0130hrs: Wake up for early supper and pack up.
0230hrs: Continue climb to summit of Mount Kinabalu.
0540hrs: Reach Low's Peak at 4,095m and watch sunrise.
0600hrs: Descend to meet Mountain Torq trainer.
0630hrs: Meet via ferrata trainer at 7.5 km mark for Low’s Peak Circuit (4 to 5 hours).
1100hrs: Return to Pendant Hut for late breakfast.
1200hrs: Check out from Pendant Hut.
1600hrs–1800hrs: Estimated arrival at Timpohon Gate.
After arrival: Transfer to HQ to collect certificate.
After lunch: Lunch at Kinabalu Park.
After lunch: Return transfer to Kota Kinabalu, journey around 2 hours.

  • For order less than 48 hours, booking is subjected to Tourist guide and room availability. We will discuss any change with you on how we can make your tour success if change need to be made. Any refund is subjected to 10% management cost as last option of your booking.

Useful Travel Tips :

In a cool subtropical highland climate, it's best to dress in layers to adapt to varying temperatures throughout the day and potential rain. Pack a light jacket or sweater, long-sleeved shirts, and a waterproof jacket or umbrella. Don't forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and comfortable walking shoes.
