Second largest city in Sabah and born along the north-eastern seaboard of Sabah, Sandakan is the gate-way for eco-adventures as it offers unrivaled beauty in all its natural glory. Though it lacks the cosmopolitan pulse of Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan throbs with plenty of wild wonders.
Blessed with a naturally endowed hinterland, the Kinabatangan flows from its headwaters in southwest Sabah to the Sulu Sea east of Sandakan. The river flows through a remarkably varied terrain within Sandakan that includes limestone caves, dry-land dipterocarp forest, riverine forest, freshwater swamp forest, oxbow lakes and saltwater mangrove swamp which makes for a long list of things to see and do on your Borneo holiday.

Itinerary
Meet and pick up at your hotel lobby or Sandakan Airport.
Visit Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre at Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve.
Get a short briefing and watch a video on the rehabilitation efforts for Orang Utans.
Walk along the boardwalk and see Orang Utans up close at the feeding platform.
Next, visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and learn about the world’s smallest bear.
Transfer by road (about 2 hours) to Bilit Jetty.
Take a boat ride to Bilit Rainforest Lodge in Bilit Village.
Enjoy a welcome drink and check in to the lodge.
Lunch is served at the lodge.
Evening river cruise along the Kinabatangan River to spot wildlife like Proboscis Monkeys, rare birds, and maybe Pygmy Elephants.
Dinner at the lodge.
After dinner, join a night safari cruise to spot nocturnal animals and enjoy the night atmosphere. Overnight at Bilit Rainforest Lodge.
Early morning refreshment before the river cruise to Ox-Bow Lake.
Discover birds and wildlife starting their day.
Return for a hearty breakfast at the lodge.
Join a short village walk (about 30 minutes) around Kampung Bilit to see local daily life.
Free time until lunch at the lodge.
Afternoon tea at 15:30 hrs.
Another river cruise at 16:00 hrs to look for more wildlife and birds along the river.
Free time before dinner at 19:30 hrs.
Overnight at Bilit Rainforest Lodge.
Breakfast at the lodge.
Drive about 30 minutes to Gomantong Caves to explore the caves and see bats and swiftlets. You might see birds’ nest harvesting.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
Transfer back to your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
