Overview

Lankayan is a small island in the Sulu Sea, about one and a half hours by boat from Sandakan. It is part of a large marine protected area and follows an eco-tourism approach. The island is uninhabited, covered with lush tropical plants, and surrounded by white sandy beach.

There are 23 wooden seafront chalets, spacious and well designed, offering a calm stay close to nature. Lankayan is perfect for those who want peace and quiet, as well as for families with children.

The island is also known as a top diving spot, with dive sites nearby full of colorful marine life, small creatures, and interesting wrecks. From March to May, divers might see whale sharks. The island is also a turtle nesting spot, and visitors can watch baby turtles being released into the sea.

  • Meet and return land transfer from Tawau Airport or Tawau hotel to Semporna jetty.
  • Return boat transfer to Kapalai Island.
  • Stay in twin or triple sharing room at the resort.
  • Buffet meals provided daily — breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Afternoon snacks served at the restaurant each day.
  • Tea, coffee, cold water, and cordial available all day.
  • Three guided boat dives each day, not on arrival and departure days (for divers).

Itinerary

Day 1 :

Meet and transfer to Sandakan PSR Jetty, about 30 minutes by car.
Take a speedboat to Lankayan Island, around 90 minutes boat ride.

Day 2 :

Divers get 3 boat dives each day and unlimited house reef dives in front of Lankayan Dive Centre (not guided, must have a buddy).
No flying within 24 hours after last dive.
Non-divers free at leisure.
Other activities: swimming, snorkeling, ocean kayaking.

Day 3 :

After breakfast, check out from Lankayan.
Boat transfer to jetty, then overland transfer to Sandakan Airport.

Important Notes

  • For order less than 48 hours, booking is subjected to Tourist guide and room availability. We will discuss any change with you on how we can make your tour success if change need to be made. Any refund is subjected to 10% management cost as last option of your booking.
