Bako National Park may be Sarawak’s smallest park, but it offers unmatched natural beauty. Located in southeast Malaysian Borneo, this 2,727-hectare forest showcases all vegetation types found in Borneo. Only an hour’s drive from Kuching, followed by a scenic boat ride, Bako feels like an adventure from the start. While it is perfect for a day trip, its wonders are best enjoyed slowly. Dramatic rock formations greet visitors as they approach the park, setting the tone for what lies ahead.
The park features seven different ecosystems, each filled with unique plants and animals. Its well-maintained trails range from easy walks to full-day jungle treks. Hikes reveal hidden beaches, steep cliffs with sweeping sea views, and diverse forests, including mangroves and peat swamps.
Wildlife spotting is a major highlight at Bako. With around 275 proboscis monkeys, guests often see these rare primates swinging through trees or resting in mangroves. Visitors can also encounter bearded wild boars wandering the area and the elusive silver leaf monkeys, known for their shy nature. Other wildlife includes flying squirrels, otters, macaques, tarsiers, and many bird species. Bako promises an unforgettable mix of scenery and wildlife, offering a true glimpse into Borneo’s wild heart.
