Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary is situated in Lancang, Pahang, approximately 110 km (or around 1.5 hours’ drive) from Kuala Lumpur. It’s a perfect stopover on your way to Taman Negara. En route to the sanctuary, you’ll have the option to visit either Deerland Park, Kuala Gandah itself, or (on Fridays only) the famous Batu Caves.
At the sanctuary, you’ll see how rescued elephants from across Malaysia are cared for with compassion and respect. Enjoy the chance to feed them, observe their behavior, and even watch or help bathe the baby elephants in the river.
This sanctuary also makes an excellent destination for educational trips. It’s a wonderful way to introduce young people to the wonders of nature and let them meet the largest mammals of the rainforest in their natural environment. A Nature Guide will lead your group through the sanctuary, sharing insights about local plants and animals, and offering a behind-the-scenes look at daily tasks such as preparing elephant food and explaining how rescue operations work.
